Maskell fibreglass reinforced plastic covers are resistant to corrosive attack from virtually every kind of chemical or compound. Suited to containing odours, harsh environments, or keeping out the elements.

Maskell have 30 years experience in the design and manufacture of fibreglass cover systems and associated equipment. Maskell produce a complete range of flat, trafficable and domed covers and accessories fabricated in corrosion resistant glass reinforced plastic (GRP).

Maskell design cover systems for specific projects with consideration of span and external load requirements. A range of resin systems and manufacturing processes are used to optimise the cover system for the application, from containment of aerosols and odours to protection against contamination and weather effects.

Fibreglass Cover Specification

FEAFibreglass (GRP/FRP) covers supplied by Maskell are fabricated to meet customer design requirements. Maskell can manufacture paneled, circular, profiled, flat, and domed FRP covers that your process may require.

All covers are manufactured in-house, giving the ability to construct standard and special fitting shapes and sizes. Maskell have at hand advanced design capabilities including computer aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA) engineering consultants.

Flat Trafficable Covers

Maskell Filament Wound Pipe SystemsFlat fibreglass panels are strengthened by ribs which transmit the loads to the walls. Ribs can be laminated onto the top or bottom surfaces of the panel.

The rib spacing is chosen to prevent the FRP panel from sagging under load, and in particular to permit it to be walked on without deforming. The outer surface can be finished with a non-slip safety tread.

Corrugated or trapezoidal profiling can be used to make flat elements more rigid and capable of withstanding heavier loads without the need for strengthening ribs. Sandwich coverings consisting of two FRP and a core (usually made from PU foam) are preferable for noise or heat insulation applications.

Maskell Filament Wound Pipe SystemsFor trafficable areas Maskell offer industrial fibreglass handrails which are commercial railing systems for stair rails, platform/walkway handrails and guardrails. Maskell rail systems are fabricated from pultruded fibreglass components and moulded thermoplastic connectors.

The railing systems are particularly well-suited to corrosive environments like those found in industrial, chemical and wastewater treatment plants as well as commercial structures with urban and salt air corrosion.

Domed Covers

The Auckland wastewater treatment plantMaskell manufacture high and low profile large and small diameter dome covers that are single shelled or segmented with a central domed cap. High profile covers permit walk in entry for easy access to the interior for maintenance. Low profile covers minimise air volume which reduces the quantity of hazardous or odoriferous gases for containment or treatment.

Maskell’s fibreglass dome covers are engineered to be lightweight and rigid, resulting in a strong, self supporting structure. Fibreglass covers are corrosion resistant to a wide range of chemical and waste water environments.

Waste Water Treatment Plants

Maskell have designed and manufactured to meet the requirements of many WWTP (Waste Water Treatment Plants); inspection windows, access ways and vents are easily accommodated. Typically, fibreglass covers are used in the primary and secondary stages of waste water treatment.

Primary Treatment

The Auckland wastewater treatment plantThe intake at a reclamation plant is likely to use many of the same FRP components as potable water facilities; trashracks, splash plates, gates, covers for grit chambers and flumes. Troughs and weirs are normally high maintenance components in water reclamation.

FRP’s corrosion resistance makes it ideal for these items as well as for scrapers, used to move sludge through the process. Lightweight fibreglass covers, resistant to the corrosive concentrations of gasses rising from treatment basins, are easily installed to help contain the process and control odours.

Secondary Treatment

FRP’s low biological activity adds to the benefits of light weight and corrosion resistance in bio-oxidation processes used in secondary treatment in WWTP. Domes and covers help control odours and contain insect growth.

Light weight, low maintenance covers made from fibreglass reinforced plastics block sunlight to inhibit algae growth, provide insulation from temperature change, and help contain odours, but remain strong enough to provide service access. Components made from FRP composites add long term performance value to investment in water treatment and reclamation facilities.
